Bookmark Hacks by Vision Jinx

These are some bookmarklets I have made for Firefox. Just drag and drop them into your Firefox Bookmarks toolbar and click them to use.

Google Buzz This

Google has finally added a proper way to post content to your Google Buzz account with out being in Buzz its self. They have made some buttons that go on your site, but I thought I would like to just have a bookmarklet where I could just click it and have it post to Buzz instead. This bookmarklet will either take your selected text (highlighted text on the page) or if you have not highlighted any text it will use the web pages title instead. Note! This is just my first draft at this and was intended for Firefox users. I didn't add any IE select text code and not sure about Safari either, but should at least just use the documents title as a fallback.

Buzz This!

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback on this bookmarklet and I have been reading the comments and the most asked for feature is the ability to add an image with your Buzz post.

Well, after a little bit of hacking I have come up with something that I think may work. I have only tested this in Firefox right now, but you can take the code below and create a new bookmark and add the following code for the location box in the bookmark to create this new bookmarklet.

This should now open a new window and render the available images on the page, you can then just click an image and you will be taken to your Buzz post page and the image (along with any selected/highlighted text as before) should now show up! If you just click the Buzz button you can still post without any images (text only).

This version is for those of you who have asked for a pop up version of this bookmarklet. This version will now open a pop up window instead of in a new tab.

Long Url

This is used to see where short urls (like tinyurl.com, bit.ly, j.mp, su.pr etc) are pointing to. Very handy for sites like Twitter that use a lot of short urls. Just highlight the shorturl link and click this bookmarklet to send the request to longurl.org to expand it to see where the link is resolving to and how many redirects it is going through. Very handy for helping to prevent ending up on malware sites or going through Ad Network redirects.

LongUrl

New! Add a LongUrl OpenSearch plugin to your browser (Safari does not support OpenSearch)

Tiny Url

This is used to make a Tiny Url by sending your current page url to tinyurl.com. This will open a small popup window with your TinyUrl that you can then copy/paste into whatever you needed it for (like Twitter). Very handy for shrinking long dynamic urls like those generated from Google Maps and such.
